Role Overview:

  • Support the commercial production and future development of sustainable omega-3 products through the operation and optimisation of fermentation and manufacturing processes.
  • Lead and contribute to production activities including clean-in-place (CIP), sterilisation-in-place (SIP), media preparation, inoculation of bioreactors and routine sampling, ensuring processes are carried out safely, efficiently and in accordance with quality standards.
  • Develop and improve production workflows, standard operating procedures and documentation practices to enhance process consistency, operational efficiency and continuous improvement across the manufacturing facility.
  • Collaborate closely with Production Team Leaders and cross-functional teams to support production targets, troubleshoot process issues and contribute to business improvement initiatives.
  • Conduct routine process monitoring and data collection, maintaining accurate records and reporting process outputs to support product quality, traceability and informed decision-making.
  • Maintain high standards of safety, hygiene and food quality, communicating effectively with colleagues and contributing to a positive and collaborative team culture.

Requirements:

  • HND qualification or equivalent practical experience in biotechnology, biological sciences, engineering, manufacturing or a related discipline.
  • Approximately two years of relevant experience within an industrial production or manufacturing environment, ideally within food, beverage, pharmaceutical or chemical sectors.
  • Practical experience operating production processes such as fermentation, CIP, SIP, pasteurisation, filtration, centrifugation or similar technologies.
  • Experience working safely under Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) within regulated production environments.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities, with the capacity to understand and resolve basic scientific and engineering issues.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with proven experience working effectively within shift teams and cross-functional groups.
  • Ability to maintain accurate documentation, complete batch records and shift reports, and communicate operational information clearly.

Desirable:

  • Experience working within GLP, GMP or other regulated manufacturing environments.
  • Experience with basic mechanical troubleshooting and routine equipment maintenance.
  • Experience within food, beverage, pharmaceutical or chemical manufacturing sectors.
  • Experience operating a forklift truck and holding a valid FLT licence.

Role Overview:

  • Support the development and optimisation of microbial strains for use as production platforms for high-value compounds in food and feed applications.
  • Lead and contribute to strain screening, characterisation and development activities, identifying and advancing candidates suitable for bioprocess development and commercial-scale production.
  • Develop and improve scalable strain development workflows, including screening strategies, experimental pipelines and data management approaches, to increase throughput and accelerate learning across the strain development programme.
  • Collaborate closely with Fermentation and Bioprocess Development teams to evaluate strain performance at laboratory, pilot and commercial scales, supporting the progression of promising candidates through the development pipeline.
  • Conduct detailed phenotypic characterisation of microbial strains using analytical techniques, including Gas Chromatography, to build a deeper understanding of strain performance and product formation.
  • Maintain accurate scientific records and communicate complex experimental findings clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences, enabling informed decision-making and effective cross-functional collaboration.

Requirements:

  • MSc, PhD or equivalent industrial experience in bioprocessing, molecular biology, engineering biology or a related discipline.
  • Approximately five years of relevant experience in strain development, microbial characterisation or a related scientific field.
  • Experience using high-throughput growth and analytical methods to characterise strain growth and product formation.
  • Experience designing selective or adaptive screening strategies to enrich for desired phenotypes under industrially relevant conditions.
  • Strong experimental design and data analysis skills, with the ability to interpret complex datasets and support data-driven decision making.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with proven experience working effectively within cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to maintain detailed documentation and communicate scientific findings clearly to a broad audience.

Desirable:

  • Experience working with multiple microbial hosts, including two or more of yeast, bacteria and microalgae.
  • Experience establishing and applying growth kinetics to characterise microbial strain performance.
  • Knowledge and application of omics techniques to understand strain behaviour and performance.
  • Experience influencing projects, challenging assumptions and driving scientific outcomes within multidisciplinary teams.

Role Overview:

  • Support the safe day-to-day operation and ongoing development of environmental, health, and safety (EHS) activities across MiAlgae’s commercial manufacturing site.
  • Lead and support incident investigations, risk assessments, safe systems of work, and corrective action activities to maintain a safe and compliant operational environment.
  • Assist with the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of EHS systems, procedures, and compliance processes across the site.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with operational teams, contractors, and leadership to promote a strong and inclusive safety culture.
  • Support environmental compliance activities including monitoring, sampling, reporting, and permit management to ensure regulatory requirements are maintained.

Role Overview:

  • Support the day-to-day operation, performance, and continuous development of the Quality Control (QC) function, ensuring activities are delivered effectively to support manufacturing operations, product quality, and wider business objectives.

  • Lead and support QC laboratory activities including testing, sampling, documentation, reporting, and data review to maintain compliance, traceability, and high-quality standards.

  • Assist with the maintenance and continuous improvement of the Quality Management System (QMS), including SOPs, CAPA activities, investigations, audits, and controlled documentation.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Production, QA, R&D, Engineering, and other departments to resolve quality and operational challenges.

  • Experience working within controlled quality systems, following SOPs, specifications, and documented procedures.

Role Overview:

  • Support the Maintenance Team Leader as part of the MiAlgae Production Team, maintaining, repairing and improving mechanical process equipment to ensure safe, reliable and efficient plant operations while supporting the continued growth and scale-up of the production facility.
  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance, reactive repairs, breakdown diagnostics and fault finding on industrial process equipment including pumps, agitators, centrifuges, valves, pipework, compressors and associated plant machinery. Inspect, overhaul and refurbish rotating equipment to maximise reliability, minimise downtime and extend equipment life.
  • Support plant improvement projects, equipment upgrades and installation of new machinery, while maintaining accurate maintenance records within the CMMS system, developing preventative maintenance strategies and collaborating closely with Production, Engineering, Technical Development and R&D teams.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience maintaining and repairing industrial mechanical equipment within manufacturing, processing, utilities or production environments
  • Strong mechanical maintenance experience working on rotating equipment such as pumps, gearboxes, bearings, motors, agitators, centrifuges, conveyors or similar equipment, with demonstrable fault-finding and breakdown repair skills
  • Experience carrying out planned preventative maintenance, equipment inspections, and interpreting engineering drawings, technical manuals and maintenance documentation
  • Strong practical mechanical aptitude with proficiency in hand tools, power tools and maintenance equipment, combined with a proactive approach to continuous improvement
  • Strong communication, organisational and teamwork skills, with a commitment to safe working practices and the flexibility to work shift patterns as required
  • Recognised apprenticeship, HNC/HND in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent practical experience
